CNC Milling Programmer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated CNC Milling Programmer to join our dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced 3-axis CNC Miller who is looking to further develop into 4- and 5-axis programming within a progressive and forward-thinking engineering environment.

The Role

You will play a key role in the production of high-quality precision components, taking responsibility for programming, setting, and operating single, twin-pallet, and multi-pallet 4- and 5-axis CNC machines.

You will be involved throughout the production lifecycle — from receipt of material through to final product realisation — ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Programming

  • Program CNC machines within the department (Fanuc controls) using Edgecam software (training available).
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications to produce accurate machining programs.
  • Optimise programs to improve cycle times and machining efficiency.

Machine Setup & Operation

  • Prepare and set up CNC machines, including loading materials, tooling, and programs.
  • Operate machinery to manufacture precision components in line with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Monitor machine performance to ensure dimensional accuracy and efficient production.

Quality Assurance

  • Conduct regular quality inspections using precision measuring instruments to ensure components meet required tolerances.
  • Complete all Quality Management System (QMS) documentation to a high standard.
  • Identify and correct deviations, making necessary program or setup adjustments.

Tooling & Maintenance

  • Select appropriate tooling for various materials and machining operations.
  • Carry out routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
  • Report machine malfunctions or maintenance requirements promptly.

Process Improvement

- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimise machining processes and enhance productivity.

- Propose and implement improvements to tooling, programming, and machining techniques.

Safety & Compliance

- Adhere strictly to all health and safety protocols.

- Follow company policies regarding material handling, waste disposal, and operational procedures.

Our Equipment

You will work with a range of advanced CNC machining centres, including:

  • 2 × Matsuura MAM-72-35V multi-pallet 5-axis machines
  • Fanuc Robodrill 5-axis
  • Brother twin-pallet 4-axis machines
  • 2 × Haas 4-axis machines

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in CNC milling, including programming, setting, and operating.
  • Strong experience machining high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, alloy steels, and aluminium.
  • Proficiency in Fanuc controls and CNC programming languages.
  • Experience with CAM software (Edgecam preferred; training available).
  • Strong understanding of machining techniques, tooling, and processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and quality assurance techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high safety standards.

Desirable:

  • 4- and 5-axis programming experience (training available).
  • Experience with a range of CNC machining centres and controls.

Job Description: Engineering Inspector 

Apsley Precision Engineering Ltd supply high quality machined components into the Defence, Pharmaceutical, Medical and Aerospace Industries.  We hold AS9100 and ISO9001 certification and are looking for a new member of staff to join our the Inspection Department following investment and business growth.  We are forward thinking, dynamic and passionate about the service we provide to our customers.    

Quality Inspector

We are seeking an additional member of staff in our Inspection Department, who would ideally have served as an inspector, or is looking to move into an inspection position from a similar position within a manufacturing company.  Training will be provided in all aspects of the job, if required. 


The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have;

  • Ideally will have served an apprenticeship 3 or have the equivalent number of years experience.
  • Proven inspection experience in a machine shop environment.
  • Ability to use CMM and Shadowgraph machines, plus precision inspection equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings.
  • Ability to report to management on production issues and address these issues with production staff and advise on the remedial actions required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office packages.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of engineering processes in particular precision machining, but also and understanding of sheet metalwork, fabrication & welding, heat treatment and electro-plating.

The Role Involves

  • Programming and operation of Aberlink CMM.
  • First off & stage inspection
  • Final inspection
  • Compiling inspection reports to customer’s requirements including FAIR’s
  • Involvement in maintaining the calibration system.
  • The use of Keyence vision and shadowgraph machines and all other engineering inspection equipment.
  • Checking manufacturing documentation is a correct with full internal and external traceability.
  • Ability to read, interpret and where required offer guidance on engineering drawings.
  • Working in line with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality procedures.
  • Communication with customers and suppliers regarding quality issues.
  • Liaising with the Chief Inspector to ensure work going through the department is completed in a timely and efficient manner to meet both customer & company targets.
  • Non-conformance investigations and reporting.
